Twelve Rules to Live By

I was reading essays on the site “Early to Rise” when I came across a list written by Craig Ballantyne titled “The 12 Rules I Live By”.  I have adapted and changed his list a little and think the list below will be helpful to you when making your own list.  Print your list off and keep it in your journal or hang it on your office wall to remind yourself of the things that are important to you.

1. Go to bed and get up at the same time 7 days per week (9 p.m. and 5 a.m.) Stick to a healthy diet, avoid caffeine after 1 p.m., and avoid alcohol within 3 hours of bedtime.

2. Read something industry related for at least 30 minutes every day.

3.  Check email at specific times during the day – make it a scheduled event.

4. Act courteous and polite at all times and never swear.

5. Create a to-do list at the start & end of every workday and update a daily gratitude & achievement journal.

6. Do not engage in confrontations with anyone, in-person or online. This is a waste of time and energy.

7. Be guided by these two phrases:

a) “Nothing matters.” – I can only work towards the major, massive goals and my vision of helping others, while the opinions of others do not matter to my goals.

b) “It will all be over soon.”

8. Everything that happens – good and bad – is your personal responsibility. Blame no one but yourself.  Always accept the consequences of your actions.

9. Make it a goal to leave every person you meet, better in some way, than you found them.

10. Do not be the person you don’t want to be. Do not be petty, jealous, or envious, or give in to any other of those negative emotions. Do not gossip or speak badly of others, no matter what. Never be negative when it is easier to be positive. Do not hurt others when it is possible to help.  Know the temptations, situations and environments in life that you must avoid, and, avoid them, even if it means loosening relationships with others who “live” in those environments

11. Always have FUN and keep the child within in you alive.

12. Live with honesty and feeling.”

These 12 rules will give you a place to start, when making your own Rules for Life.
